Pat left South Africa with her family in 1977 and settled in Potomac, MD. In 1990, she graduated magna cum laude in Mathematics from the University of Maryland, and during the following decade, she actively pursued coursework in fine arts at Montgomery College, discovering overlapping concepts in the abstract aspects of math, art and music. Pat has explored virtually every medium available to her, including watercolor, pastel, oil and acrylic, stone carving, wire fabrication, printmaking and ceramics. If she sees it, she needs to experience it. Her representational portraits and figures are now evolving into more abstract forms as continued visits to South Africa influence her work. She believes that the strong, vibrant colors and intense light of Africa are a part of her vision, as is her love for the people of South Africa. Pat is a member of the Maryland Pastel Society and serves as president of the Rockville Art League. Among her many awards, she most recently won that for Best In Show at the RAL’s December juried exhibition. Her work has been shown in numerous juried shows and at galleries such as Colour Gallery in Silver Spring, Maryland, Poltrona Frau in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. and Blackrock Center for the Arts in Germantown, Maryland. It also hangs in private collections across the United States and South Africa.
